Nintendo revealed during their E3 Treehouse Live stream yesterday that Rhythm Heaven Megamix, the latest entry in their quirky rhythm game franchise, is now available for purchase on the 3DS eShop. The game was released last year in Japan, and while confirmed for localization several months ago, had been without a firm release date up to this point, making its launch all the more surprising.
Megamix serves as both a compilation and a partial new entry, combining 70 mini-games from the first three entries with 30 new ones, as well as the first story mode for the series. Local multiplayer has also been introduced to the series, along with StreetPass functionality. It’s worth noting that some returning mini-games will be from the Japan-exclusive first entry in the series, originally Nintendo’s final Game Boy Advance game in 2006.
Europe will have to wait until October 21 to play Megamix, but they’ll get the opportunity to buy physical copies, as Nintendo has confirmed that North American distribution will be digital only. Both releases will also contain the option to play the game in the original Japanese language if desired.
