It wasn’t too long ago when Battle Royale was a horror-fuelled Japanese film directed by Kinji Fukasaku. Now, though, it’s the name of what’s arguably gaming’s most popular genre.
Case in point: Respawn’s new kid on the block, Apex Legends, is currently at 50 million players and counting. That’s an incredibly impressive install base, and now that the shooter’s first balancing patch is out in the wild – nerfing the Wingman and the Peacekeeper – we’re starting to catch wind of what else the future may hold for the game.
Over on Twitter, for instance, eagle-eyed fans have managed to do some digging into the files and came up with something pretty interesting. According to @ApexLeaksNews, there’s a big addition coming to the Apex arsenal in the form of a rocket launcher. Its name and the exact details surrounding it are still unclear, and Respawn is yet to announce anything official, but it’s still pretty exciting nonetheless.
We will, of course, let you know if and when the studio decides to open up on this latest find, but it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see a rocket launcher of some sort added into Apex Legends. After all, it’s a staple of many other titles in the genre. But then again, most battle royale games have vehicles and/or structures to destroy – both of which Apex is missing.
True, previous leaks have hinted at Respawn cooking up some kind of vehicle for their latest effort, but that remains unconfirmed for now. As such, all we can do is sit tight and wait for the developer to peel back the lid on their post-launch plans for Apex Legends. And with the first season of content expected to go live this month, it may not be too much longer now before they do just that. Watch this space for more.
