Despite not being a first-party Microsoft title, Resident Evil 7 is to be included in its Xbox Play Anywhere program from launch, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has confirmed. “RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard confirmed for @Xbox Play Anywhere,” says Spencer, meaning a single purchase of Capcom’s upcoming survival horror will confer two copies of the game, one for Windows 10, the other for Xbox One.
You will, however, need to buy a digital copy of the game directly from the Microsoft Store in order to take full advantage of the promotion. While this is the first time a non-Microsoft published title has been available in such a way, previous reports stating that Resident Evil 7 would support cross-saves between PC and Xbox One makes the announcement largely unsurprising, if not welcome.
Elsewhere, the download sizes for Resident Evil 7 have been revealed, thanks to listings on the Xbox Games and PlayStation Stores. Thankfully, it appears as if you won’t need to free up too much space to accommodate its arrival next week, as both platforms requiring a modest 20.21 GB and 20.7 GB respectively (thanks, VG247). Of course, the above doesn’t account for any last-minute or day one patches that Capcom has planned for release day, so you might want to keep some hard drive space spare, just to be sure.
Resident Evil 7 arrives January 24 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. If the relatively small download size has you concerned about length, know that Capcom has a plethora of DLC planned for the game throughout 2017, including a meaty season pass as well as free content in the form of an additional story scenario – Not a Hero.
