Capcom and Valve announced this past week that they have entered into a joint crossover project called Resident Evil 6 x Left 4 Dead 2. As you might expect from the name, the project will see characters from Left 4 Dead 2 make their way into the PC version of Resident Evil 6, while RE6 enemies will join the zombie hordes in the PC version of L4D2.
For RE6 owners, the Resident Evil 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 crossover downloadable content means that they will be able to control one of four survivors from L4D2 (Coach, Nick, Ellis, and Rochelle), while playing in the PC exclusive The Mercenaries No Mercy mode. Each character has their own unique weapon load-out in the game, making the new playable characters more than just re-skinned models. Additionally, the Witch and Mini Tank zombies from the Left 4 Dead franchise have been thrown into the mode as enemy types. The Resident Evil 6 DLC will be automatically downloaded in the background for all owners of the PC version starting on April 5th, for free.
Left 4 Dead 2 PC players will find that the Lepotitsa, Napad, and Ogroman enemies have been redeveloped by Valve using their Steam Workshop tools, and will be available as free DLC sometime this spring.
Commenting on the crossover project, Chet Faliszek from Valve stated, “We’re huge Resident Evil fans, so when the opportunity arose to work directly with Capcom to combine Left 4 Dead 2 and RE6, we jumped at it.”
Resident Evil 6 Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi added, “The Resident Evil 6 team really enjoyed working on this crossover, and we’re confident that our fans will have a great time with it too! We hope you enjoy this unique content.”
