The year 2015 is undoubtedly going to go down in the video game world as the greatest ever as far as remake announcements go. Everyone already lost control of their bladders at this year’s E3 – when a Final Fantasy VII remake was announced – but now we have news of something equally amazing.
Yes, Capcom have just confirmed that Resident Evil 2 Remake is, in fact, happening and the official Resident Evil YouTube channel has been updated with a a video announcing the news, which you can watch and re-watch at your leisure.
The remake will be headed by Resident Evil HD Remaster producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, and Capcom released a statement to VideoGamer with the following information.
We’re pleased to confirm that Resident Evil 2 has been approved for development As the title is only just starting its development cycle we unfortunately don’t have any additional information or assets to share at this time. However, for now we want our fans to know that we appreciate all the feedback and support we’ve received on this title. We’re looking forward to delivering this highly anticipated Resident Evil experience that fans have been waiting for.
It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved. The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans’ passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want.
Judging by Hirabayashi’s words, the project is still in the extremely early stages of development, so it could be a while until we get any actual gameplay footage. Likewise, no release date or release platforms have been currently announced, but expect to hear more further down the road.
