Believe it or not, the original version of Resident Evil 2 released on Playstation is actually what got me into the series back in 1998. Having confessed that, you can imagine I’m looking forward to the remake hitting shelves later this week. Funny enough, I and undoubtedly many other fans out there thought something such as this would swiftly follow the remake of RE 1 developed for the Gamecube in 2002, but I guess the term “better late than never” certainly applies here.
Of course, it’s probably safe to assume that Capcom will make money hand over fist with this baby, but they obviously need to craft an effective ad campaign just like anyone else. And in this case, they’ve wisely looked to their past to help make our return trip to Raccoon City extra special.
As some of you may know, zombie genre royalty George Romero directed a live action commercial promoting the would be Playstation classic in 1998, and now that concept has been revisited. If you check out the video embedded at the top of this article, you’ll see one kick-ass trailer hyping Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield’s shared descent into a living nightmare.
Being a longtime lover of the franchise as stated earlier, I must say that I very much dig this short piece. In fact, I’d go as far to see that it felt more “Resident Evil” to me than most of the live action movies released by Sony Pictures. All we can do is hope that they do better with their planned reboot.
Resident Evil 2 arrives in stores this Friday, January 25th. For more, be sure to check out our five-star review.
Now if Capcom could just get cracking on a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis very soon, that’d be great.
