Capcom released a new trailer for Dontnod Entertainment’s Remember Me yesterday, revealing a little over two minutes of new gameplay footage that ends with Nilin (the game’s female protagonist) facing off against “Kid Xmas” in a boss battle that is broadcast live on the “Neo-Paris TV network”.
Aside from the boss battle — which takes place in an arena that literally pops up out of nowhere — the trailer also shows off more of the futuristic Neo-Paris city, Nilin’s combat powers, environmental traversal, and reveals the existence of female house-robots that play the piano and then “accidentally” knock you over while carrying luggage bags.
I’m honestly still not quite sure what to make of Remember Me. The overall story seems interesting enough — same goes for the game’s Combo Lab system, which allows you to customize and build your own attack combos on the fly — but the gameplay trailers keep giving me the impression that the title is going to consist of little more than brawling through a room filled with enemies and then making your way down a set path to the next room filled with more enemies. That doesn’t even take into account the less-than-stellar voice acting and contrived Kid Xmas boss battle.
Even with those concerns, there are a few things that have me holding out some hope that Remember Me is going to turn out to be a decent game. Specifically, the first gameplay trailer that was shown for the title featured a very impressive sequence where Nilin hacked into her target’s memory and changed it so that he instantly became suicidal. Assuming those gameplay elements are varied and paced well throughout the entire story, it could go a long way towards overcoming any other shortcomings.
Remember Me is set to launch in May 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Check out the new gameplay trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments.
