Remedy Entertainment, the developers behind Alan Wake, threw more fuel on the “next-gen consoles” fire today when they revealed that they are working on a next generation game, and described the unannounced system as a “quantum leap” over the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Oskari Hakkinen, Remedy’s head of franchise development, made the statement to the German edition of GI International, saying:
“Currently we are working – like always – with a relatively small team on a next-gen project. One question you always ask yourself in this phase is: can the upcoming consoles really be so much better compared to the current gen? I can rest assure you, they are! It’s a quantum leap.”
This makes Remedy the latest in an ever-increasing line of developers to mention the existence of the unannounced next-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, despite the platform holder’s insistence that these systems don’t exist. The comment also supports recent speculation that the consoles are not going to come cheap for consumers.
With all the industry chatter going on about the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4, I’d be surprised if we don’t officially hear about them early next year. My guess is that Microsoft and Sony are waiting to get past the upcoming Holiday shopping season before they drop the next-gen console bomb on gamers’ wallets.
