If you’re on the internet right now, chances are you’ll have heard of Apple’s latest iteration of their telephonic communication device, which they’ve intuitively dubbed the iPhone 5. It’s the usual stuff, but this time with a taller, 4″ screen, faster processor and improved visuals.
If you’re a gamer, you’ll also have noticed the shift to casual gaming that has swiftly emerged over the past couple of years, thanks to smartphones and tablets. The iPhone 5, along with Apple’s latest iPod Touch range, intends to capitalise on that post haste, predominantly thanks to the improvements mentioned above.
But that’s obvious. You knew that was going to happen. You’ve been playing Angry Birds and Doodle Jump and Temple Run for months and years now on your existing smartphone or tablet device. But here’s the big news: Apple’s latest gadgets are said to be purposefully focused towards gamers, with much more of a push on this side of things than we’ve seen before.
Just take a look at the screenshot below, courtesy of Joystiq:
That’s what Real Racing 3 will look like on the iPhone 5. The game will feature “time-shifted” asynchronous multiplayer, using iOS 6 Game Center challenges. Presumably this just means ghost racing, but hey, the visuals are definitely a step up – and now on a 4″ screen, too.
EA promises the game will rival many console experiences, which is a rather bold claim for a smartphone app – particularly when touch screens can often come hand in hand with clunky control schemes. Will it fulfil its promise? We’ll find out when the game launches later this year.
