With so many companies competing for the lion’s share of the spotlight, VR specialist Oculus has confirmed plans to host its own conference prior to E3 on June 11, one dedicated to all things Oculus Rift.
First picked up by IGN, the press event is set to take place in San Francisco, and considering that the studio recently outlined the rather demanding specs for the anticipated VR headset, one would imagine June 11 will herald the unveiling of the hardware’s price point. If so, this is the one facet that has the potential to make or break the impact of the Rift upon launch. Scale too high and Oculus risks alienating all but a very small fraction of its potential audience, so it’ll be interesting to see how the company gauges the device’s value and its place in the market.
Currently, Oculus only has plans to make the hardware compatible with Windows PCs, delaying the Mac and Linux versions in order to double down on creating a “high quality consumer-level VR experience at launch across hardware, software, and content on Windows.” In case you missed them yesterday, here’s those high-end PC specifications you’ll need to ensure the Oculus Rift runs smoothly.
