SuperBot Entertainment announced today that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has gone gold, and is now on its way to the magical factory where computer code is pressed onto shiny labeled discs. To mark the occasion Sony has released a trailer of the title’s opening cinematic, and in the process revealed that Polygon Man is the final boss.

Don’t feel bad if you don’t recognize Polygon Man, because Sony never wanted anyone in North America to ever see him. At one point Polygon Man was Sony’s PlayStation mascot, but he was pulled before the original console launched in the West in 1995. Edge reports that Sony Computer entertainment CEO Ken Kutaragi fired the would be mascot after he noticed that the character model was flat shaded and not Gouraud shaded!

Hard to imagine how they could make such a horrible mistake…

At any rate, Polygon Man seems to have made his return, and you will get a chance to beat the flat shading out of him when PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale launches on the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on November 20, 2012 in North America.
