It feels as if a lifetime has passed since Nintendo and Game Freak finally pulled back the curtain on Pokémon Sword and Shield, does it not? In reality, the Switch exclusives were made official back in February via a short but sweet Direct presentation gifting fans a first look at the pair’s new Galar Region and the creatures that call it home. Similarly to 2013’s Pokémon X and Y, Generation 8 looks set, once again, to draw heavy inspiration from European culture and architecture, specifically the UK.
Given the close proximity of both real-world countries, massive speculation surrounding a potential return of Gen 6’s Kalos region has circulated since Sword and Shield‘s announcement, though at this time, that’s all it is. It’s that same air of mystery that surrounds future Pokédex additions too, as nought but radio silence has followed the big winter reveal. That being the case, Pokéfans have been left to their own devices in sussing out which creatures new and old will be making an appearance, inevitably leading to the usual deluge of ‘Fakemons’ doing the rounds.
With that said, however, of what little the Big N and Game Freak have been collectively willing to share, a handful of ‘Mons are confirmed to make an appearance, and you can check them out via the gallery below.
Longtime fans will immediately recognize the majority of those critters confirmed as hailing from past Generations. Frustrating, of course, for fans eager to catch a glimpse of the new designs Game Freak has in store, though their inclusion does at least confirm that Sword and Shield‘s Pokédex won’t be restricted to featuring solely brand new additions. In fact, Pocket Monsters from almost every period in the franchise’s history are represented in one way or another, including mascot Pikachu. The iconic yellow mouse never gets left out.
As for the brand new arrivals, starters Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble are the only three we know of so far, though with E3 right around the corner, you can expect a tidal wave of new blood to join them imminently.
Assuming the rumors are accurate, Pokémon Sword and Shield hit the market this November.
