Confirming yesterday’s preemptive trademark leak, Nintendo has formally unveiled Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, which are now on course to hit 3DS in holiday 2016.
Word comes by way of the publisher’s Pokemon-themed Direct, heralding all manner of news for the time-honored RPG series in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
As the first mainline installments since 2013’s X and Y, there’s a crackle of excitement surrounding the launch of Moon and Soon, but they aren’t the only Pokemon-themed titles arriving in 2016. Next month, Wii U owners can look forward to the release of Pokken Tournament, a brawler designed by the creative minds behind Tekken and Soulcalibur. Looking further afield and there’s also the launch of Pokemon Go across iOS and Android, an augmented reality title that will hope to bring out the trainer in us all.
Tomorrow, February 27, marks the 20th anniversary of the franchise, and you can feast your eyes on today’s teaser for both Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon ahead of their holiday 2016 release.
Starting tomorrow you’ll also be able to play the retro titles via 3DS – Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow. The graphic below is a handy illustration of the new-fangled Pokemon Bank, allowing you to transfer your pocket monsters to new titles for the very first time.
