Hot on the heels of the announcement that Pokémon Go just topped $2.5 billion in revenue comes a tantalizing bit of news from the world-famous data mining, PoGo spoiler leaking Chrales. The 43,000-follower-strong Twitterer never fails to please players with his game-hacking data leaks, and his latest tweet adds some flair, and possibly some armor, to the fan-favorite Mewtwo.

Originally released in the popular app in 2017, Mewtwo made its first appearance during Japan’s Yokohama stadium event. A 100% catch rate was the prize for any trainer who could defeat the genetically engineered savage in battle. It later went worldwide in the first Exclusive (Ex) Raid battles, and battle parties of the superior Pokémon have been taking down level 5 raid bosses ever since.
Mewtwo has always been a favorite in the games, and PoGo is no exception. But, as with all the leaked data we’ve received over the years, this one should also be taken with a grain of salt until we get more solid info. But that doesn’t mean we can’t dream, now does it? And dream we will; some speculate the “A” in the code could mean “armored,” and the release of a new form of Mewtwo may coincide with the upcoming release of Pokémon Sword & Shield this fall.
It wouldn’t be the first time Niantic has released a new Pokédex entry to promote a crossover with a new game, either; last November, Meltan and its evolution Melmetal were released into our augmented reality to hype Pokémon Let’s Go.
More speculation suggests that Niantic could be getting ready to release the poke’s mega evolution, Mewtwo X and/or Y as well, despite it not being introduced until Gen 6. There are currently Alolan forms of Geodude and Sandshrew in PoGo, among others, and those weren’t originally released until Gen 7. So, there’s yet another possibility to drool over.
While players wait to see what all this means, there are plenty of other current and future events to help us get our game on. Bagon community day is coming April 13th, and Legendary Lunch Hour continues on April 10th, giving players around the globe a chance to spend their entire lunch break catching the current tier 5 raid boss, the origin form of Giratina. Those events, along with the upcoming Pokémon Go Fests this summer in Chicago, Germany and Asia, should be enough to keep folks all over the world busy catching them all, and then some.
