According to figures published by Gfk Chart-Track, the PlayStation 4 sold 250,000 units in the United Kingdom over the course of the weekend, which positions Sony’s next-gen system as the fastest-selling console launch in the country’s gaming history. The record, which was previously held by the PSP since 2005, emulates the Xbox One’s retail performance, with Microsoft’s latest hardware selling 150,000 units in comparison.
What’s more, the PlayStation 4 also surpassed its predecessor, the PlayStation 3, which sold 165,000 units within its first 48 hours on the market. At the time of writing there’s no information regarding the console’s performance in the other European territories, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted once those figures in question are released.
In terms of software, Killzone: Shadow Fall entered at number one, though Guerrilla Games’ launch title was boosted through the launch bundles. Here’s the dedicated, PS4 top ten in full:
1. Killzone: Shadow Fall
2. FIFA 14
3. Battlefield 4
4. Call of Duty: Ghosts
5. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
6. Need for Speed: Rivals
7. Knack
8. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
9. NBA 2K14
10. Injustice: Gods Among Us
As expected, FIFA 14, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts make up the most successful third-party releases, ranking at 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively. And although these statistics are somewhat skewed due to launch bundles, it’s worth mentioning that Knack outsold Super Mario 3D World in the all format chart, with Sony’s first-party platformer slotting in at 13th ahead of Nintendo’s Wii U exclusive at 14th.
