Platinum Games Would Like To Bring Bayonetta And Okami To 3DS

Hideki Kamiya has a lot of experiencing developing home console titles. His thoroughly impressive repertoire includes the likes of Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 2, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and Bayonetta, so it's understandable that he might want to try his hand at a portable release for a change. With development finally wrapped up on Wii U title The Wonderful 101, now seems like the perfect time. In a recent discussion with Siliconera at PAX, the Platinum Games director said the following regarding the studio's relationship with Nintendo and some of his ideas for potential 3DS games.

In a recent discussion with Siliconera at PAX, the Platinum Games director said the following regarding the studio’s relationship with Nintendo and some of his ideas for potential 3DS games.

Given the chance, I’d like to make a game based on Jeanne from Bayonetta. Something that’s not as big in scale. Something that’s portable, that you could play in quick sessions, where she’s a history teacher and the kind of fun things that could come out of a scenario like that.

This actually sounds like a pretty amusing idea, but the real gem of the conversation as far as I’m concerned came when he said the following.

If I could get away with it, I’d also like to come up with a spin-off of Okami, less focused on the grand idea of saving the world, but [rather] something focused on the smaller world of the fairy Issun.

Of course, Okami as a property belongs to Capcom, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the publisher couldn’t strike up some kind of deal with Nintendo that allows Platinum to work on a new game. Okamiden already exists for the DS, so we know portable Okami works, not to mention the fact that Kamiya has already expressed interest in attempting to get Capcom’s permission for new Okami in the past.

Whether any of these games will become a reality or whether Kamiya is just blowing off steam is hard to say, but at the very least Platinum’s partnership with Nintendo seems to have him as enthusiastic as ever. The Wonderful 101 is out in North America on September 15th, so do Mr. Kamiya a favor and go play it!
