We knew that Overkill Software and Valve were planning something, we found out that the blueprints weren’t for a Left 4 Dead prequel and now we know just what they are going to hit us with.
According to a video posted, and then hastily removed, by Overkill Software, the Payday: The Heist gang have set their sights on No Mercy hospital and the blood samples of a quarantined patient.
Speaking with Kotaku, Chet Falisek from Valve has revealed that whilst this has been developed solely by the Payday devs, there are more elements to this crossover from Left 4 Dead than merely the setting:
“There is a little cameo from one of the L4D characters (the comic should give you a hint) and a fun little easter egg with a payoff later in Left 4 Dead. Just us having some fun with a studio we are friends with and who have also made a great co-op game.”
However, whilst the events occur before the outbreak of the infection Chet has stressed that this is not a Left 4 Dead prequel:
“This is a 100% Overkill made mission for Payday: Heist simply set in no mercy hospital from the Left 4 Dead series. It is not telling the origins of the Infection and is not canon. “
I have already donned my sharp suit and ludicrous mask, so I am more than ready to steal some blood by shedding other peoples.
No release date for the content has been announced, and just what form it will take is also currently unknown. For now, we only have our speculation… Oh, and the video – as it was thankfully taken hostage by numerous cunning criminals before its removal:
