Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Obi-Wan Kenobi both take place nine years before the events of A New Hope, a time when the Empire is at its height and any surviving Jedi are being ruthlessly hunted down by Imperial Inquisitors. Even though the timelines overlap, the events of the game and the Disney Plus show don’t ever cross over.
Or do they? One fan theory may have connected the dots between the two by focusing on the only character the two releases share. Fair warning, explaining this theory will require spoiling part of Survivor, so if you haven’t played it you have been warned:
The bout between Cere and Vader in Survivor is one of the game’s highlights. In Fallen Order, Vader arrived at the end of the game as a warrior so powerful all you could do was sprint away from him in terror, but Survivor lets you face your fears and actually duel him. We won’t spoil the outcome of Cere and Vader’s fight, but obviously no Star Wars fan should be surprised that Vader lives to fight another day given that this story is set before the original trilogy.
We also agree that Vader’s determined and supremely confident mindset during this fight indicates that Survivor happens before Obi-Wan Kenobi, which wraps up with Vader shifting focus away from hunting Jedi to ruling the galaxy at Palpatine’s side. So, at least for us, Vader still recovering from his fight in Survivor when Obi-Wan Kenobi begins makes a lot of sense.
We may still get a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, here’s hoping Cameron Monaghan’s Cal Kestis makes the leap to live-action soon, as we want more of him as soon as humanly possible.
