EA’s retooled version of Battlefront may be chewing up the scenery across the four corners of the industry, but there’s another Star Wars project incubating in development at Dead Space developer Visceral Games. Headed up by former Uncharted writer Amy Hennig, the project itself has remained in the shadows for years at this point, but finally esteemed voice actor Nolan North has shed some light on the new IP during a panel at last weekend’s Metrocon, 2015.
North, who is on board the project in an as-yet-unspecified role, touched upon the tone of Visceral’s take on Star Wars, which he described as a mix between Uncharted levels of adventure and is said to be “along the same lines” as the canned Star Wars 1313.
“If you’re a big fan of Amy Hennig and her styles of story: the big thing about her is that she’s gone to EA and is going to reboot a brand new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted. And I happen to know a lot about it, and it’s gonna be awesome.”
Hennig left Naughty Dog in April of last year to join EA, but it wasn’t necessarily the smoothest of transitions. According to reports, the studio essentially showed her the door – and subsequently tossed 8 months of pre-production work on the sequel – opting instead to usher in The Last of Us‘ creative team to take A Thief’s End in a new direction. Here’s what North had to say about the internal reshuffle:
“I can’t really say too much about that…But I will. We had shot eight months of her story and it was all thrown away. The Last of Us guys came in, they wanted… You have to understand, new producers, new people, they want to do it…
“I don’t know what happened exactly, Amy is still a very very dear friend of mine, and she’s brilliant, but The Last of Us guys were the next team there, so they took over and just wanted their own flavour. They got rid of some of the other people involved and just redid the thing.”
