In a recent interview with Edge, Dark Souls II producer Takeshi Miyazoe revealed that there are currently no plans to release DLC for the upcoming title.

“For Dark Souls 2, we don’t even expect any additional downloadable content because we want to deliver a full game, the full experience, to fans who purchase the package from day one. We did do additional content for Dark Souls, but generally downloadable content for Dark Souls 2 is not really being considered. Buy the package and you’ll get the full experience, and you’ll have as much fun as anybody else.”

Considering that Dark Souls II is one of the last big titles coming for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, it’s a little surprising to hear that it won’t be receiving any downloadable content. It seems like every major title of the last few years has been the recipient of such moves, even when they are deemed unnecessary by the general public. So credit does have to go to FromSoftware and Namco Bandai for deciding to buck the trend and release the title as complete as can be.

Along the same lines as refusing to do DLC, Miyazoe also explained that FromSoftware has no interest in creating a free-to-play entry into the Dark Souls franchise either. His explanation of “spending a couple dollars on certain items does not help the experience. So no free-to-play yet!” is music to my ears.

Dark Souls II will be hitting the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on March 11th 2014. Tell us, are any of you surprised by Miyazoe and FromSoftware’s reluctance to release DLC for the title? Let us know in the comments section below.
