Fans of the cult Nintendo series Mother may want to sit down for a moment; rumours suggest that Mother 3 is getting localized for a Western release this year. Originally released back in 2006 for the Game Boy Advance, the title was never released outside of Japan, despite the previous game in the series having been released in the West under the name of EarthBound.
However, Emily Rogers – an individual who has, in the past, tipped-off various games press outlets in the past about current Nintendo happenings, posted an ambiguous comment to her Twitter account recently, saying: “Don’t be surprised if Nintendo celebrates a game’s 10th anniversary this year.” The comment is vague, sure, but considering Nintendo is big on celebrating anniversaries this year (Pokemon and The Legend Of Zelda are celebrating separate milestones this year), a Mother 3 release outside of Japan wouldn’t be outside the realms of possibility.
But hey, a rumor is a rumor until confirmation comes from the horse’s mouth, so take the information with a pinch of salt for now. However, the original Mother was released just recently on the Wii U Virtual Console as EarthBound Beginnings, so Nintendo have clearly taken notice of the series’ rising popularity outside of its native country.
