Nintendo shared their first look at gameplay in Bayonetta 3 for the Nintendo Switch during the Nintendo Direct today and it looks like a high octane, rollicking good time.
The hack and slash actioner from Platinum Games first made its appearance on the Wii U and the titular main character has since become a staple of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.
In this new installment, the witch protagonist returns to battle foes with her signature Witch Time, Nintendo of American explained over Twitter. But this time, she’ll alos have a brand new ability, Demon Masquerade, enabling her to channel the power of demons and engage in larger-than-life action.
The first Bayonetta game, released in 2009, did not have an appearance on a Nintendo console, instead releasing on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to positive reviews. It was created by Hideki Kamiya, the mind behind the Devil May Cry franchise, another hack and slash fan favorite. The game was developed by Platinum Games and published by Sega.
For the second outing of the series, Bayonetta 2, Sega parted ways from the partnership, leaving an opening for Nintendo to revive the project and make it a console exclusive for its then-console the Wii U (Sega would retain a role as a consultant on the game). It eventually released in 2014 to further acclaim.
The first two Bayonetta games were eventually ported over to the Nintendo Switch, with the second installment reportedly outselling its Wii U counter part.
Originally announced in 2017, Bayonetta 3 will be coming to the console in 2022.
