Who wouldn’t want to play Gladiator meets 300 meets Spartacus meets Michael Bay? Anyone? Good. The aforementioned amalgamation is exactly what Ryse: Son of Rome is selling itself as, an epic re-creation of the ancient city that puts you into the shoes of a Roman General out for revenge.
Not only is the game being developed by Crytek, meaning it will no doubt look gorgeous, but it’s also an Xbox One launch title and one of the console’s more prominent exclusives, which hopefully indicates that it will be of high quality. Along with perhaps Dead Rising 3 and Forza Motorsport 5, this is one of the must-haves on launch day and judging by the footage we’ve seen so far, it’s not hard to see why.
All that aside, Ryse: Son of Rome just looks like a hell of a lot of fun. Its hack and slash gameplay looks bloody and brutal and the promise of being able to fight off invading tribes of barbarians in order to protect your city’s legacy is just too tantalizing to pass up. And don’t think this will be a watered down version of the empire either. Crytek has promised some truly Mature rated content so that we can experience Ancient Rome in all its glory.
Just thinking about that makes me want to pre-order an Xbox One immediately.
