Electronic Arts has semi-nailed down a release window for DICE’s upcoming revival of the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise, by announcing that the new shooter will “most likely” hit store shelves around the middle of 2015.
The non-specific release date for Battlefront was revealed by the publisher’s Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen during a recent earnings call, where he told investors that the game “will most likely come out around the same time the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of ’15.”
EA signed their deal with Disney to make and publish Star Wars titles last May, so it is hardly surprising to hear that the next Star Wars: Battlefront is going to be in the development oven for the next two years. Additionally, it makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective to try and ship the game around the same time that the first film in the new trilogy is released.
As for what players can expect to get when the new Star Wars: Battlefront is released in 2015, well… that is anyone’s guess at this point. The game’s reveal at E3 didn’t provide much in the way of details. All we really have to go on is the extremely short debut trailer, which only confirmed that the following will be in the game: Hoth, Blaster fire, a crashing Snowspeeder, and the stomping side of an AT-AT’s foot.
We have a ways to go before Electronic Arts starts to ramp up their marketing machine for the next Star Wars: Battlefront, so it will likely be some time before a substantial amount of information surfaces. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on what should be included in the game in the comments below. Do you want to see the space battles from Battlefront II return, or are you content to be squashed to little Rebel bits by a passing AT-AT?
