505 Games have launched their unique Poker RPG into Steam Closed Beta today, meaning interested poker sharks can get a first look at Prominence Poker. The game comes as 505’s next new IP, following the successful launch of Portal Knights, and it is being developed by indie studio Pipeworks.
You’ll start off in Prominence Poker with only your wits and a poker face to explore unsuspecting and seedy locations for underground games. Settings include the local casino, a dive biker bar and even the backroom of a laundromat. You’ll go on to face off against unscrupulous characters across four cunning factions as they work their way up to challenge the leader of each group, all for a final showdown with “The Mayor” – the mysterious town founder.
Through the game you can create your own poker alter ego from head-to-toe and earn experience points to unlock emotes, unique items and prestige, thus bringing the RPG elements into the mix. An intricate bluff-and-tell system will have players reading their opponents for clues to their hand strength, with subtle gestures including speed of play, frequency of card checks and more.
Prominence Poker will also feature a deep multiplayer experience with regularly scheduled events, daily challenges, tournaments, ranked modes, unlockable new venues and other future content.
You can sign up for the Closed Beta for Prominence Poker at the official site right here, and check out some shots of the game in action below.
