Developer Spike Chunsoft took the stage during Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show presser to confirm that Daganronpa 3 will be headed to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2016.
Beyond an announcement and vague release date, the studio didn’t specify much about the actual threequel, though it will mark the cult franchise’s debut on PS4. What we do know is that Danganronpa 3 will be “something you will never imagine,” in the world of Spike Chunsoft, and the company asked fans to expect further details about Monokuma’s return “soon.”
Spike’s title will be the third mainline installment in the popular murder mystery series, following in the footsteps of Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair. North American users were treated to a spinoff earlier this month in the form of Another Episode – Ultra Despair Girls, and it’s fair to say that the studio’s twisted and gleefully dark visual novel franchise has become something of a bona fide hit on PlayStation Vita in recent times.
How the Danganronpa experience will translate to consoles remains to be seen, though if it means that Spike’s delightful series is gaining access to a bigger demographic, then we welcome the platform jump with open arms.
Stay tuned to We Got This Covered as we’ll be bringing you all the news for Danganronpa 3 – and TGS 2015 in general – in the coming days.
