Supermassive Games’ upcoming slasher title Until Dawn will not support a 2-12 multiplayer mode after all.
PlayStation 4 owners had their collective interest piqued after a retail listing over at PlayStation Asia seemingly confirmed the online feature, though a SCEE representative has since confirmed to VideoGamer that the horror experience will be single-player only.
It’s hardly surprising, really, considering that Supermassive’s long-in-development new IP has been built with a dynamic narrative in mind. Situated in a remote and wholly literal cabin in the woods, Until Dawn will see you take control of multiple characters as you guide them through the most horrific night of their lives. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, though, and it won’t be long before the butterfly effect brings your own, unique story into shape – with Supermassive promising branching narrative paths by the hundreds.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When eight friends are trapped on a remote mountain retreat and things quickly turn sinister, they start to suspect they aren’t alone. Gripped by fear and with tensions in the group running high, you’ll be forced to make snap decisions that could mean life, or death, for everyone involved.
Every choice you make in your terrifying search for answers – even the seemingly trivial ones – will carve out your own unique story. With spine-tingling performances from a Hollywood cast including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, Nashville) – your actions alone will decide who survives Until Dawn.
Supermassive Games will look to send chills down your spine when Until Dawn looms onto PlayStation 4 on August 28.
