It has been another rewarding week for NetherRealm’s, Mortal Kombat X, as it succeed in fighting off Grand Theft Auto: V and Battlefield: Hardline for a second week running. The classic beat ’em up delivered yet another knockout punch in the wake of last week’s record breaking release, which saw the franchise’s most lucrative UK launch ever.
Considering there have been next to no new releases – excluding the underwhelming Tropico 5, which came in at No. 18 in the top 40 – it is hardly surprising to see that very little has changed in the elite tier. Grand Theft Auto: V holds onto the second place spot, following its recent release on PC, and Battlefield: Hardline has also maintained last week’s standing in third place, continuing to lick its wounds following an abrupt end to the game’s four-week run at the top.
Despite no change in the first three positions, there have been a few refreshing developments slightly further down the chain. Minecraft: Playstation Edition ascends into a comfy No. 4 spot, claiming a monumental 172% increase in sales and knocking FIFA 15 down into 5th. Far Cry 4 and Bloodborne both find themselves slipping unceremoniously out of the top ten, while Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and WWE 2K15 sneak up into No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
Even after Mortal Kombat X‘s triumph, the incoming release of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt can’t be brushed under the rug, as it seems likely that the time honoured fighting game will suffer its first fatality at the hands of the gargantuan RPG. However, the question is, will it hold onto its hard-earned top spot until the The Witcher III: Wild Hunt’s fast approaching, May 19th release date? Only time will tell us for sure, but for now, let us know what you think below.
The full and final top ten is as follows:

- Grand Theft Auto V
- Battlefield Hardline
- Minecraft PlayStation Edition
- FIFA 15
- Minecraft Xbox Edition
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
