Remember back to the hazy days of two months ago? The internet was all abuzz with a lighthearted campaign that Shaggy from Scooby-Doo should be added to the DLC roster for Mortal Kombat 11. Well, now that the game’s out (and kicks an unbelievable amount of ass), there’s no been no sign or hint that Shaggy might actually be coming. But that doesn’t mean he’s not on the way.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon posted a somewhat ironic tweet today asking if fans would still like to see him in the game, teasing the following:
RT @Boogie2988 Shaggy for mortal kombat? @noobde ?
Me: Oh wow, that's an idea. Maybe we should consider and discuss this? Do people want this? Hmmmm?https://t.co/FcYdrgZotr

So, do people want this? Well, judging by the replies, it seems this joke has run its course. Aside from the usual collection of gifs of people indicating no, fans seem to want older Mortal Kombat characters added to the game more than novelty guests from other franchises. Perhaps the simplest and best summary is a post that simply says: “This meme dead.” I wholeheartedly concur.
Despite the chances of Shaggy coming to MK11 being minimal, it’s all but certain that the game will see licensed characters in some form. Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, the Predator and Giger’s Alien have all made it into previous games, and it seems that more are to follow. A recent data mine even suggested that we’re going to be treated to The Evil Dead‘s Ash Williams, the Terminator (though they surely cannot afford to license Arnie’s likeness), the Joker and Spawn. All those seem like good fits for a fighting game, especially one as notoriously bloodthirsty as Mortal Kombat.
As the DLC campaign is officially announced, we’ll no doubt be getting full character trailers for each of these fighters, and I can’t wait to see what kind of gruesome fatalities they cook up for them.
