Digital Dreams has announced a release date for its intriguing, genre-defying platformer, Metrico. Billed as an “infographics action game,” the minimalist title will launch exclusively on PlayStation Vita on August 5th and August 6th in North America and Europe, respectively.
Taking to the PlayStation Blog, Roy van de Mortel, the studio’s level designer, outlined the game’s unusual mechanics, though admitted that the core concept of Metrico is difficult to surmise based on visuals alone:
“We attempted to create a clarifying gameplay trailer using several different approaches, but it was hard and took a lot of time, so we chose to instead invest that time to work on the game. In the end, actually playing the game, experimenting with all the different forms of inputs and getting direct feedback through playing is absolutely the single best way to understand Metrico.”
In tandem with the announcement, Digital Dreams also confirmed that a free demo will launch alongside the full title on August 5th, which will introduce players to the first world within the game — itself approximately 5% of the entire mind-bending adventure.
Initially announced during Sony’s conference at Gamescom last year, Metrico appears to combine the stark visual style reminiscent of The Unfinished Swan with the rhythm-based gameplay found in the rather delightful Sound Shapes.
With a dynamic world that morphs based on your inputs and a whole new take on the innate DNA of puzzle platforming, Metrico will launch exclusively on PlayStation Vita in August.
