Officially, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is the only MGS title that Konami currently has in development. Unofficially, most Solid Snake fans agree that The Phantom Pain is actually the long-rumored Metal Gear Solid V. If you fall into that crowded boat, then you might be interested to know that we could be getting some more information about the mysterious game this Thursday.

GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley tweeted the following message to his followers yesterday afternoon:

“This should be interesting: Heading off to interview Moby Dick Studio Head CEO Joakim Mogren… The Mogren interview will be on GTTV this Thurs night. He said he has something new to show me.”

If you have not been following The Phantom Pain news, you might be thinking to yourself, “Who the hell is Moby Dick Studio?” And if that is what you were thinking, you are already on the right track.

Last year during the VGAs Konami revealed a surprise trailer for their new IP, The Phantom Pain. The trailer centered around a mullet-sporting protagonist crawling around a hospital, which immediately set off Metal Gear Solid V warning bells within the MGS fan community. A fictitious studio (Moby Dick Studio) founded by American developer Joakim Mogren, was said to be responsible for The Phantom Pain trailer. Not long after that Joakim was discovered to be an anagram for Kojima — as in, Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima.

Aside from that, there were multiple MGS references found in the trailer, and the game’s logo contained several lines that could be connected together to spell out Metal Gear Solid V.

Konami has never officially confirmed that The Phantom Pain is Metal Gear Solid V, however, all the evidence certainly seems to point towards that conclusion. Either way, it appears that the question will be solved once and for all on GameTrailers TV tomorrow.

[Update] The Joakim interview with GTTV did happen, and has been posted on Youtube. No announcement was made, and there is speculation that Joakim was actually not there but simply rendered by the FOX engine. More The Phantom Pain trailers were promised for GDC.
