Marvel’s Avengers Fans Aren’t Happy With Captain America’s Design

From his appearance to his suit, a few vocal fans are taking issue with Captain America's design and overall look in Marvel's Avengers.

While there was plenty of hype surrounding the first proper look we got at the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake, it’s safe to say that at Square Enix’s E3 conference, Marvel’s Avengers made the most buzz. After all, the franchise has seen an explosion in popularity thanks to the countless MCU films, and fans from all over have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of developer Crystal Dynamics’ new title. Sure, some superhero tie-ins have dropped the ball in the past, but this new game is set to deliver on all fronts.

Not only will you be able to take control and play as Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America and Hulk, but Marvel’s Avengers will feature both single-player and co-operative modes. Better yet, Square Enix has already promised that there will be no pay-to-win microtransactions (it’s fair to say that we should expect some cosmetic DLC), but the publisher also announced that the game will be regularly updated with new stories and heroes, which will be regularly doled out free of charge.

Unfortunately, there’s one nagging issue that some fans can’t seem to get out of their minds. For better or worse, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have opted to redesign the look and appearance of each Avenger, as opposed to modeling them after their real-world counterparts (we imagine it’s a budgeting issue).

As a result, Tony Stark does not look like Robert Downey Jr., the Hulk has very little in common with Mark Ruffalo, and so on. This isn’t a dealbreaker by any means, but some have taken issue with Captain America’s appearance. Not only does his costume seem a tad amateurish, but a few Twitter users were not pleased with the in-game model.

To be fair, these models and designs are by no means locked in stone, and there’s always the chance they could be tweaked and retooled before launch. Thankfully, Marvel’s Avengers is due out in less than a year, and with a beta on the way, we’ll be able to see how the gameplay is shaping up long before it hits store shelves.
