Though Tom Clancy’s The Division was arguably revealed far too soon, leading to a prolonged delay and intermittent marketing, Ubisoft is slowly getting the wheels in motion once more ahead of the post-apocalyptic shooter’s release next year.
With E3 looming on the horizon, the company has published a new Q&A session for the month of June, which features members of the creative team providing a visual explanation to fan queries. From The Division‘s loot system to character customization, the footage provides an insight into the mechanics lurking beneath the MMO’s striking aesthetic.
Senior character artist, Emil Mujanovic, goes on to talk about the degree to which players will be able to customize their in-game avatars.
“We have a good system in place where we can actually customise regions of our gear. For instance, the chest piece has up to three variants we can change. There’s an outer layer, a middle layer, and a bottom layer. That way you don’t bump into the same guy with the same gear and be like ‘Oh, I don’t feel as unique or as important in the game anymore.’ Plus you get to look how you want to look.”
E3 2015 will mark The Division‘s third – and surely final – consecutive year under the limelight. Powered by Ubisoft’s in-house Snowdrop game engine, the game will portray a post-pandemic New York City, where the Big Apple is in ruins and survivors have formed menacing gangs that wage war over territories, shelter and food. There’s a palpable eeriness to what we’ve seen so far, too, with the winter setting and the year-round, abandoned Christmas decorations.
Following the delay, Ubisoft’s The Division is expected release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC sometime before March 31, 2015. Presuming it isn’t delayed again, that is.
