Yooka-Laylee, the crowdfunded 3D platformer in development at Playtonic Games, will feature local multiplayer when it launches in early April.
The co-op mode will support up to four players, opening up a collection of eight arcade-style mini-games that includes Glaciators, Kartos Karting, Blag the Flag, Gun-let Run, Jobstacle Course and Hurdle Hijinx. Rextro will be your dinosaur host for the shenanigans, and you can see what’s in store via the new trailer above. There’s also the option to play through the Yooka-Laylee campaign, with the second player taking control of the Bee Team, though it should be noted this co-op mode in particular is limited to two players and two players only.
Taking a leaf from Ratchet & Clank‘s book, Playtonic announced recently that its Kickstarter darling – one pitched as a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie – will be priced at $39.99 (£34.99/€39.99) at launch.
“We want to reach as broad an audience as possible with Yooka-Laylee and hopefully help a brand new generation of gamers experience the open-world platforming genre for the first time. We’ve been able to develop our first game thanks to the amazing support of our 70,000 Kickstarter backers and although they’re getting the game for a much bigger discount, if possible we wanted to pass on a saving to those who missed the crowdfunding campaign too.”
Yooka-Laylee will take flight for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 11. A Wii U version was on the docket early on in development, but Playtonic has now shifted development resources over to Nintendo’s upcoming Switch console.
