Although it was a fan favorite franchise on the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, Sony surprised many with the announcement that LittleBigPlanet 3 was not only in development, but that it would be released in 2014. Today, developer Sumo Digital revealed that Sackboy’s latest adventure will be released on November 18 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
In addition to the official release date, Sumo Digital also took to the Official PlayStation Blog in order to talk about the various pre-order bonuses available for LittleBigPlanet 3. These bonuses will be specific to a variety of stores and include both physical and digital goodies.
Leading off the pre-order bonus list is the Sackboy plush, which can be acquired at an assortment of different retailers, including GameStop and Amazon. Retail chain Target will have their own specific version of the plush that is sporting a cap with the store’s logo on it.
Best Buy, Amazon and GameStop will also be offering their own different costume packs for OddSock, Toggle, Swoop and Sackboy. If you choose to pre-order LittleBigPlanet 3 from Best Buy, you will receive the Hidden Creatures Pack, while taking your business to Amazon gives you access to the PlayStation Favorites Costume Pack. Conversely, GameStop is offering the Mythical Creatures Pack in exchange for your cold, hard cash. Images of all three packs can be seen below.
The PlayStation Digital Store will be offering its own pre-order bonus for LittleBigPlanet 3, which is perfect for those who prefer digital over physical. Pre-ordering the title now will grant you access to the T-Shirt Pack, which looks like it sounds. While it’s not as unique as some of the other costume packs, this package of shirts will also be eligible for use in the previous iterations of the franchise.
While these different costume packs will be retailer exclusive, at least for a little bit, Sony also announced that Day 1 editions of LittleBigPlanet 3 will feature two exclusive costume packs. In a partnership with BioWare, the Day 1 edition will include the Dragon Age Costume Pack, which outfits our heroes in medieval-themed clothing. The other exclusive pack, the 4 The Players Costume Pack, will provide outfits based around various PlayStation personalities such as Nathan Drake and Delsin Rowe.
Despite the fact that these costumes are adorable and Sackboy looks stylish as all heck in each of them, I detest the fact that each retailer is receiving a different costume pack. It’s the same issue I have with Warner Bros. Interactive and their Batman games, as they pimp out different outfits for the Caped Crusader to every chain store out there.
We will continue to have coverage of LittleBigPlanet 3 in the lead-up to its release, so stay tuned.
