Citing unnamed sources, Siliconera is reporting that Activision has been recording voiceover work for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and plans to release the unannounced title next year.

The source did not specifically state that “Call of Duty 2013″ would be titled Modern Warfare 4, but did confirm that the game was in the “Modern Warfare arc”. Additionally, the report describes the main character as “a battle hardened veteran in his mid-thirties with a nihilistic point of view.”

According to our vast knowledge of The Big Lebowski, that means he “believes in nothing” and will repeat that statement multiple times over the course of the game.

The anonymous source also turned over several lines of dialog from the rumored Modern Warfare 4 script, and claimed that there will be a “flashback” segment during the game featuring John “Soap” MacTavish in Somalia.

While none of this information has been confirmed, it does square with a recent report that claimed that Bill Murray (Captain Price’s voice actor) was meeting with Infinity Ward to “work on the sequel to Modern Warfare 3“.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 just now launching, it will be several months before Activision is ready to announce the next title in the Call of Duty franchise. It is entirely reasonable to assume (given the development history) that the next game will be Modern Warfare 4, however, all of this should be considered rumor and speculation until something official is announced.
