Leaked Trailer For Overwatch’s Next Event Hints At New Capture The Flag Mode

At this point, there doesn't appear to be any part of Overwatch's Year of the Rooster event left for Blizzard to surprise players with ahead of its arrival tomorrow. As per a video leaked on Chinese social media website Weibo (via GameSpot), it appears as if a brand new game mode will be available as part of the event, and if you've ever picked up a pad and played a shooter before, you likely already know the rules. We can't say for sure until the event goes live, but the leaked footage clearly shows Tracer capping a flag and exclaiming that the "The objective is mine!" before whizzing off-screen to pester the enemy team, suggesting that a capture the flag mode is on the way. If this is to be a new mode, it could well be part of a new HBrawl, rather than a permanent addition to the current playlist, but you can check the trailer out for yourselves here and make your own assumptions.

The above follows the leak, last week, of a promotional poster for the Chinese New Year event, that revealed more limited-time legendary skins for the likes of Roadhog, Winston and Reinhardt, scrubbing their usual appearances in favor of some themed after the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. The video quality isn’t exactly great, but both Symmetra and Mercy look set to be getting their own special costumes, too.

With any luck, Year of the Rooster will go down better than last year’s Christmas event, which received its fair share of criticism. From what we’ve seen so far, it seems that Blizzard has taken note of that feedback and put more time into tomorrow’s occasion, but we won’t know for sure until it kicks off in earnest.
