To mark the game’s release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Monolith Productions and Warner Bros. have debuted a dazzling new launch trailer for their much-anticipated RPG, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.
The footage, which you can check out above, teases the overarching story within the Tolkien-inspired world — one that’s set to bridge the gap between the adventures of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
For Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, players will step into the shoes of one Tailon of Gondor, an esteemed ranger who is betrayed by Sauron’s minions and doomed to haunt the luscious realms of Middle-earth as a wraith replete with supernatural abilities. As such, gameplay will encompass a variety of rather novel features, including an Arkham Asylum-esque Detective Mode.
However, perhaps the title’s unique selling point is its acclaimed Nemesis System. Essentially, the engine will collate a host of in-game data allowing the world and its populace to react accordingly to your protagonist. So, if you’re particularly nasty to a species of Orc, that same breed won’t welcome you so kindly later in the game. I guess every action has an equal an opposite reaction after all.
In the build-up to launch, Warner Bros. trumpeted the power of the Nemesis System, which they believe will shape every play through in a slightly different way.
“The team and technology powering the Nemesis System helped us develop an emotional investment between each player and their enemies, which creates a truly memorable gaming experience unlike anything that’s been done before.”
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is available today, September 30th across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Monolith’s RPG is currently slated to release in Europe on October 3rd before appearing on last-gen systems in November.
