Paizo has reacted to Hasbro’s license by announcing a new one
Paizo, the company behind Pathfinder and Starfinder, has announced that they are planning to create another license after the Wizards of the Coast controversy. Leaked documents have previously suggested that Hasbro is about to change its license, forcing people who are making money off its TTRPG games like Dungeons & Dragons, to pay a royalty on income over a certain threshold.
This is Paizo distancing itself from the Hasbro situation, creating an open license that is similar to the existing license, and allowing players to do whatever they want with the games royalty-free. The backlash against Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast has been fierce so this move is not too surprising. Kobold Press had previously announced that one of its games would be moving away from the license as well.
John Carpenter might have confirmed a Dead Space movie
Famed director and all-around cool guy John Carpenter might have just confirmed that a Dead Space movie is in development. For those who do not know, the director of Halloween and Escape from New York is a fellow gamer, and one of his favorite gaming franchises is the Dead Space franchise. So much so, that several times throughout the years he has talked about his interest in making a Dead Space film.
Recently in an interview with Variety, the idea of Carpenter helming a Dead Space movie was brought up once again. In the middle of the interview, Carpenter said “I think they already have another director involved.” This would lead credence to the idea that a Dead Space film is actually in development. But even if he was mistaken and there is no movie in the works, a remake of the original game in the franchise is set to release later this month. So, there’s still something for Dead Space fans to look forward to.
The launch trailer Hitman: Freelancer has been released
A free update for all the owners of the newly rebranded Hitman: World of Assassination (formerly Hitman 3) is almost here, and to let people know about it IO Interactive has released a new cinematic trailer. Hitman: Freelancer is the new roguelike mode coming to Hitman: World of Assassination, and it will change the way you play Hitman. Interestingly, you could load into a mission and not be guaranteed to clear your objectives based on what you brought with you.
The mode gives you your own safe house that you can customize but more importantly, your own arsenal of weapons and tools you will need to use to take down your targets. But first, you need to find them. You can watch the trailer in the tweet above and the update is planned to come to all versions of the game on Jan. 26, 2023.
