Just Cause 3 Will Let You Use Cars As Weapons

Ever since its inception, unbridled creativity has been a cornerstone of the Just Cause franchise. Taking control of Rico Rodriguez, players have been able to blast their way across all kinds of tropical paradises in whatever way they see fit, and for Just Cause 3 the song remains the same. As a matter of fact, according to Avalanche, Rico will have the ability to use cars - and just about everything else on the Mediterranean peninsula - as weapons.

Ever since its inception, unbridled creativity has been a cornerstone of the Just Cause franchise. Taking control of Rico Rodriguez, players have been able to blast their way across all kinds of tropical paradises in whatever way they see fit, and for Just Cause 3 the song remains the same. As a matter of fact, according to Avalanche, Rico will have the ability to use cars – and just about everything else on the Mediterranean peninsula – as weapons.

In trumpeting the threequel’s innate sandbox qualities, Just Cause 3‘s Game Director Roland Lesterlin talked about the creative aspect of the adventure title and the importance of giving players free rein.

The game is about creativity. The car is another tool for you to mess around with – you can put a bunch of C-4 on a car and jump it into a base. That could be the beginning of your epic base attack. There’s full deformation; hinged parts so cars break and parts move. The feel of it has a full racing engine underneath. We do shocks, downforce and things that you’d find in a full racing game.

Going one step further, Lesterlin hinted that players will be able to modify the automobiles within the game, and even “spawn a motorbike on the wing of a plane and ride it off.” Because who needs the laws of physics in a riotous sandbox title?

Just Cause 3 is expected to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this year, and it’s likely we’ll find out more information about Avalanche’s sequel at E3 in a few weeks’ time.
