Earlier this week, the NPD Group (which is responsible for keeping track of video game sales) released the monthly figures for May, which details the top-selling titles and hardware within the US market. Much to the surprise of no one, last month saw Injustice 2 nab the top spot on the software sales list, despite only having been out since May 16th.
There are a few other noteworthy entries on the list as well. Specifically, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Zelda: Breath of the Wild came in at number 2 and 4 respectively, despite the relatively small install base of the Nintendo Switch (their rankings don’t take digital sales into account, either). When it comes to older games, Grand Theft Auto V managed to take the number three slot, despite having released years ago.

When it comes to hardware, the PlayStation 4 managed to eek out the top spot. This marked the end of the Switch’s sale streak, which topped the charts for the months of March and April. When compared to May 2016, sales have dropped 20% down to $271 million, though this can be explained by the lack of major releases last month (Injustice 2 and Fire Emblem Echoes were the only new titles on the best-selling list).
With only a handful of big games debuting this month (with Nintendo’s ARMS being the most notable), it’ll be interesting to see which ones top the sales charts for June. We’ll be sure to let you know once that data is released, but until then, take to the comments section and tell us which games you think will dominate this month.
