Psyonix has announced some new DLC for its popular car soccer title Rocket League today, and it’s another crossover collaboration. This one is a little different, however, as there’s no film license in sight. We’ve already seen the likes of the iconic DeLorean from Back to the Future and the Batmobile be introduced to the title, but how about some racers based on toys? On February 21, two new cars based on the Hot Wheels line of die-cast toy cars will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC for a modest $1.99, which also includes a set of exclusive wheel and decals.
Twin Mill III and Bone Shaker are the two new rides included in the bite-sized add-on, both of which you can see in the trailer above, but if you’re not sold on dropping any more cash on Rocket League than you already have, Psyonix says that all players have the chance to find a Hot Wheels themed Antenna and Topper when the DLC drops, regardless of whether they purchased it or not. Both items will be random post-match drops.
It appears, then, that Psyonix has stumbled upon a new demographic to appeal to with its ever-popular game. Besides the above, the developer revealed last week that, in partnership with Zag Toys, a range of ‘pull-back’ toys will be available to buy this spring. They’ll be available in eight different flavors and come housed in their very own Rocket League ball. Both parties have yet to confirm which retailers will stock them upon release.
There’s apparently no stopping Rocket League‘s worldwide appeal. Not only was it the most-downloaded game on PlayStation 4 last year but last we heard, it recently smashed the milestone of 25 million players. With a fanbase so large, you’ll want to keep an eye out for those toys – you just know they’re going to sell out in an instant.
