Guerrilla Games has confirmed The Frozen Wilds to be the first mainline expansion for Horizon Zero Dawn, and it’s coming this year.
A short trailer accompanied the announcement, one which featured the flame-haired Aloy exploring a frozen landscape teeming with robo dinos, enigmatic tribes and potentially nefarious hunters. We’ve included the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it teaser up above, which really raises more questions than answers. For instance, it’s no secret that the core story of Horizon left us clinging on to something of a cliffhanger, so it’ll be interesting to see if Guerrilla plans to bring a sense of closure to Aloy’s journey before the year’s end.
Other than a vague 2017 release window, no further details were given at the time of writing, but we assume Zero Dawn‘s maiden slice of DLC will be with us this fall – optimized for PS4 Pro, too. The official message from Guerrilla is as follows:

Horizon Zero Dawn launched to rave reviews back in February, during which time Aloy became a bona fide fan-favorite among the PlayStation community. Her journey continues with the release of The Frozen Wilds later in 2017, and after shipping upwards of 3 million copies, the future is very, very bright for Guerrilla’s flagship. Just spare a thought for the dormant Killzone series.
The Frozen Wilds will add a new chapter to the lush, apocalyptic world of Horizon Zero Dawn later this year. More on Guerrilla’s story expansion when we get it, but in the meantime, you can leave your preliminary impressions in the usual spot below.
