Confirming early reports to be true, developer Guerrilla Games has formally locked down a new release date for Horizon Zero Dawn, with the post-post-apocalyptic RPG now poised to land on February 28, 2017 in North America.
Initially pegged to launch at some point in 2016, word of the postponement arrives by way of PlayStation Blog, confirming that Horizon will also hit Europe and the United Kingdom on March 1 and March 3, respectively.
Per PS Blog:
The new date affords us the extra time required to deliver fully on our ambitious vision for Horizon Zero Dawn.
We realise that this decision may not please everyone. At the same time, we’re confident that the advantages of the additional development time afforded by the new date will become clear in the coming months, as we start to share more cool details and videos from Horizon Zero Dawn.
To cushion the blow, Guerrilla has premiered a brand new gameplay trailer for its primordial new IP, chronicling the origins of Aloy, the game’s protagonist. Thrusting players into a futuristic world “inhabited by mysterious mechanized creatures,” it’s understood those towering robo dinos are crucial to the story of Zero Dawn, which is being angled as a new first-party franchise for PlayStation 4.
In light of the announcement, expect Horizon Zero Dawn to roar to life on February 28, 2017 in North America.
