Horizon Zero Dawn, the post-post-apocalyptic RPG in the works over at Guerrilla Games, is shaping up to be Sony’s early poster child for theĀ all-new PS4 Pro hardware.
In case you missed it, that’s the official name of Sony’s beefed up, 4K-capable system that’s now on course to release in November. It’s slightly bigger than the base model, too, and essentially looks as though two PlayStation 4s have been stacked on top of each other. Form factor aside, it’s this extra breathing space that has allowed engineers to ramp up the technical specs, ensuring all PS4 Pro games will output in native 4K resolution. That extends to streaming applications like YouTube and Netflix, too.
Unless you’re one of the fortunate few to own a 4K television set or monitor, that’s a visual leap that can be quite hard to communicate on the interwebs, as evidenced by this new gameplay demo for Horizon Zero Dawn. Without an official clip to relay from Sony at the time of writing, the snippet embedded above is still your standard HD video. Rest assured, we’ll update this post if and when the company unveils official 4K gameplay.
Once pegged for launch in 2016, Guerrilla’s new IP is now slated for release in February, and it’s not beyond the realm of imagination that Sony bumped the open-world title so that Guerrilla could get the most out of the new PS4 Pro. That, and the studio simply needed more time to polish its most ambitious vision.
Horizon Zero Dawn has been earmarked for launch on February 28, 2017. It’ll be playable across both the standard PS4 model and Sony’s newly announced Pro system, the latter of which will touch down on November 10.
