Microsoft’s Games With Gold rolls on in April with a pair of violent, but decidedly different action releases for the Xbox 360.
Starting on April 1st, Xbox Gold owners will be able to download Hitman: Absolution, the latest entry in IO Interactive’s popular franchise. Released in 2012, Absolution picks up with Agent 47 following the events of Hitman: Blood Money. Although the main storyline for this outing involves Agent 47 being tasked with protecting a young child, there are still plenty of targets for everyone’s favorite bald assassin to take care of. In our 4 star review of the game, we praised Absolution for its dynamic gameplay, solid voice acting and innovative Contracts mode.
On April 16th, Deadlight, the zombie apocalypse platformer from Tequila Works, will become available. Taking place in Seattle in 1986, the title tells the story of Randall Wayne, a park ranger who is on the search for his wife and daughter following the chaos brought on by a zombie outbreak. We reviewed the game back when it was first released and although we found the storyline engaging, the short length of the title and awkward animations held it back from greatness.
Earlier this month, Microsoft’s corporate VP Phil Spencer pledged to improve the Games With Gold promotion and I think this month is a step in the right direction. Both Hitman: Absolution and Deadlight are relatively recent titles and with Xbox One titles coming to the program at some point in 2014, things seem to be picking up for Xbox Gold owners.
