The talk of the town at the moment when it comes to gaming is Apex Legends, and understandably so. Since launching near the start of February, it’s gone on to become the multiplayer shooter that folks just can’t put down, racking up more than 25 million players already and proving itself as a fun, refreshing take on the genre.
In fact, there’s even been some talk that it could potentially dethrone Fortnite down the road, and though it very well may go on to do so, for now, there’s still quite a bit of life left in Epic Games’ world conquering battle royale. Still, Apex is off to a smashing start and it’s only going to get better from here.
As you surely know, the game will use a seasonal content model along with Battle Passes, similar to the aforementioned Fortnite, and here’s how it’ll work.
From what we understand, players will be rewarded for unlocking new Battle Pass tiers with “a mix of exclusive seasonal cosmetics and Apex Packs.” However, they won’t include Legends, which is probably for the best and means that new Legends won’t be locked behind some kind of paywall.
At the moment, we’re unsure of when Season 1 will get underway, but it’s got to be within the next few weeks as we’ve already been told that it’ll kick off at some point March. Unfortunately, a price point still eludes us as well, but in order to compete with Fortnite and PUBG, it’ll likely be around $10 for the Battle Pass. And that’ll probably come with 100 or so items that you can unlock.
But even if you don’t manage to unlock them all during the course of the season, fear not, for we’ve heard that certain items will still be available to pick up even once the current Battle Pass is expired. How exactly that’ll work, we can’t say for sure, but it’s an interesting concept and we’ll let you know once we learn more about it.
Finally, you can expect for the first season of content to last for roughly three months – as is typical for the genre – and given that Respawn is competing in a very, very crowded field, we imagine they’ve got something pretty special in store for us when Apex Legends Season 1 kicks off in just a few short weeks. And honestly, we can’t wait to dive right in.
