DrinkBox Studios’ critically-adorned Mexican platformer Guacamelee! is headed to more platforms than previously thought. According to a report by IGN, the studio’s digital adventure will not only launch across Xbox One and PS4, but will also come to Xbox 360 and Wii U in the form of the Super Turbo Championship Edition.
Though no pricing or release date was confirmed, DrinkBox has stated that the definitive version of Guacamelee! will launch soon with “20-25% more content” than the original release. That new content in question is set to include a fresh horde bosses, additional levels and an all-new “chicken bomb” ability.
Initially, Juan’s 2D, teaquila-fuelled escapade was exclusive to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, where it released in April of last year. Since then, Guacamelee! has debuted on PC and Mac through the Gold Edition featuring the supplementary El Diablo’s Domain DLC — which itself introduced challenge modes alongside an uncharted area named El Infierno.
Although this announcement joins the ever-increasing ranks of last-gen ports — including Tomb Raider, Fez and potentially Mass Effect — Guacamelee! remains as one of the most undervalued games of 2013. With revamped visuals, unexplored worlds and new enemies to suplex, headbutt and rooster uppercut six ways from Sunday, this upcoming iteration seems like the best way to experience the tale of one Juan Aguacate.
Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition is currently without a release date, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted about new details for the enhanced rerelease as they emerge.
