GTA V fps 4

So what’s it to be then? All things considered, it’s a pretty tough conclusion to draw. Certainly they both offer their fair share of thrills, and if you’re going to spend $60 on a video game, you’re unlikely to suffer any major disappointments with either of these titles – depending on how much hype you were subjected to.

But what’s my recommendation worth anyway? Well, the answer is actually a lot, because I’m a wise and superior gamer. Still, if that’s not quite a good enough reason for you, perhaps you should cast your eyes towards the ivory towers in which the big-name critics sit. The reviews they tossed down – written on pure silk with swan-feather quills – seem to suggest that Grand Theft Auto V should be your sun-soaked crime simulator of choice.

Metacritic has settled on a whopping 97% for it. Far Cry 4, by comparison, has, at the time of writing, only managed a measly 85%.

Far Cry 4 5

We can deduce then, that the fifth installment of Grand Theft Auto is precisely 12% better than the fourth installment of Far Cry. Important to know. But I’m not sure I’m entirely in agreement. GTA had, in my un-humble opinion, one of the worst multiplayer facets ever in a video game. It was a slow, boring, hugely unnecessary mess – and anyone thinking that the inclusion of a first person mode will make it a fizzy and exciting Call of Duty contender is very wrong.

I’m not saying it needs to contend with it – it’s just as big a franchise on its own. Neither am I saying that Far Cry‘s competitive multiplayer is any good, because it isn’t either. I’m only saying that the first-person perspective – more than any other – carries certain expectations. Certainly no one cared when it was discovered you could play Modern Warfare 2 in third-person.

So what of my final, unflinching decision then? Which game would I rather be playing, all things considered, right now? Completely honestly? Far Cry 4. And not just because it’s got way more dogs in it.
