For the second time in less than a week an online retailer has posted a listing claiming that the unannounced Gran Turismo 6 will be released on the PlayStation 3. While prior online listings contained no information on the speculated/rumored title, this time the retailer included a non-placeholder box art and release date.
Today’s Gran Turismo 6 retail listing comes from the Italian site Multiplayer.com. The box art included in the listing (pictured above) looks relatively official, and the retailer is showing that the racing game will be released on November 28th — presumably, this would place it around the same time of the PlayStation 4’s launch.
Polyphony Digital’s technically unannounced Gran Turismo 6 was first mentioned by Sony Worldwide Studios’ senior vice-president, Michael Deeny, in an interview with Silicon Republic last February. Deeny tossed out the fact that the racing game was one of the many upcoming first-party titles that was still scheduled for the PlayStation 3. The statement was intended to ease fears that Sony would not support the PS3 after the PS4 was released, however, most Sony fans were far more interested in the fact that nobody had officially announced GT6 as a thing that was happening.
Shortly after that rather strange announcement, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president and CEO Jim Ryan hinted in March that there are still some “highly significant” unannounced games headed to the PlayStation 3. Gran Turismo 6 was not mentioned by name, but the timing of this statement seemed to hint at a connection.
Gran Turismo 6 has still not been officially announced, so this new retailer listing should be taken with a grain of salt until Sony gives the high sign. With that said, GT6 is most likely coming for the PlayStation 3. We will keep an eye out for the game’s reveal and let you know as soon as Sony makes it official.
[Update] Multiplayer has updated their online listing for Gran Turismo 6 to show a different box art from the original image pictured above. The new image (which has added to the gallery below) notes in English “Not final art – image for display purpose only”.
